چکیده

We present an exact equilibrium analysis of a class of associative memory models with spatial structure in the form of combined shortand long-range synapses. We solve the models for sequential and parallel dynamics by use of random-field techniques and we find that competing interactions induce continuous and discontinuous bifurcations of the overlap order parameter as well as coexistence of different types of nonzero recall phases and that the number of recall transitions in parameter space increases proportionally with the number of stored patterns.

Pattern Recognition in Neural Networks with Competing Dynamics: Coexistence of Fixed-Point and Cyclic Attractors

We study the properties of the dynamical phase transition occurring in neural network models in which a competition between associative memory and sequential pattern recognition exists. This competition occurs through a weighted mixture of the symmetric and asymmetric parts of the synaptic matrix. Through a generating functional formalism, we determine the structure of the parameter space at no...

Dopamine D1/D5 receptor signaling regulates synaptic cooperation and competition in hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons via sustained ERK1/2 activation

Synaptic cooperation and competition are important components of synaptic plasticity that tune synapses for the formation of associative long-term plasticity, a cellular correlate of associative long-term memory. We have recently reported that coincidental activation of weak synapses within the vicinity of potentiated synapses will alter the cooperative state of synapses to a competitive state ...

Competition Between Synaptic Depression and Facilitation in Attractor Neural Networks

We study the effect of competition between short-term synaptic depression and facilitation on the dynamic properties of attractor neural networks, using Monte Carlo simulation and a mean-field analysis. Depending on the balance of depression, facilitation, and the underlying noise, the network displays different behaviors, including associative memory and switching of activity between different...

P20: The Role of Protein Kinases in Memory

When an experience is encrypted into a long-lasting memory, it is believed that specific sets of neurons in the brain of the animal undergo changes including the strengthening of preexisting synapses and the growth and maintenance of new synaptic connections. These activity-dependent synaptic changes appear to require the coordination of a variety of cellular processes in spatially separated ce...

Any discrepancies between knowledge stored in short-term memory and a “new” state are used to update the short-term ...
